Are you seeking an internship in the behavioral healthcare field?

Horizon has internship opportunities for students enrolled in applicable 60 credit hour master's degree programs. Horizon Behavioral Health provides services to individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, substance use issues and/or co-occurring disorders in Lynchburg, VA and the surrounding counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell.

Internships for Summer 2025 include:

  • School-Based Services, Langhorne Wellness Center – Bachelor’s level student studying Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. School-based services are evidence-based and focus on assisting the student in meeting their mental health needs while remaining in their academic setting.
  • Project Link, Horizon Wellness Center at Lansdown – Bachelor’s or master’s level student studying Psychology, Sociology, or related field. The Project LINK Program offers intensive case management and home visiting services to pregnant and parenting women who are “at risk” or are diagnosed with a substance use disorder.
  • Youth and Family Grant, Amherst Wellness Center – Bachelor’s or master’s level student studying Psychology, Sociology, or related field. Outpatient services geared specifically to youth and their families.
  • Outpatient Services, Bedford Wellness Center – Bachelor’s or master’s level student studying Psychology, Sociology, or related field. Individual, family, and group therapies are provided to address a wide range of challenging mental health and substance use issues across the lifespan.
  • Prevention Services, Landover Wellness Center – Bachelor’s or master’s level student studying Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, or Health Promotion. Horizon’s Prevention & Wellness Services works to prevent substance misuse and suicide to promote mental wellness in Central Virginia. The intern will work with the CVARR coalition in substance use prevention, treatment, recovery programs, and initiatives.
  • IT Services, Fagan Administration Building – Bachelor’s level student in pursuing any MIS degree. Horizon’s IT team provides support for the agency’s desktops, applications, mobile devices, inventory, and Help Desk. Come learn the day-to-day tasks and skills of a vibrant, active Help Desk team.
