Senior Clinical Director of Outpatient, Case Management and Housing

Sherri Walker-Thacker is the Senior Clinical Director of Outpatient, Case Management and Housing for Horizon Behavioral Health. Sherri has 30 years of experience in community behavioral health with 25 years in leadership roles. Her experience as a leader and direct service provider spans the continuum of behavioral health services to include Prevention, Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder, Outpatient, Intensive Outpatient, Case Management, Crisis Intervention, Intensive in Home (MST), Therapeutic Day Treatment, Mental Health Sponsored Residential Homes, and Mental Health Skill Building, Psychosocial Rehabilitative, Program of Assertive Treatment, and Crisis Stabilization/Medical Detox Services. Her clinical expertise lies in the area of trauma and adverse life events across the life span. She has extensive training in evidence based trauma treatment modalities and delivering those services in a public behavioral health setting. Early in her career, Sherri was asked to present at the International Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect in Denver, CO on a program she developed working with adolescent girls with trauma histories. In 1999 she received the Lynchburg Area Mental Health Professional of the Year award for her work with this same population. Sherri grew up in State College, Pennsylvania. She received her degree from Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia. Sherri is licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Virginia.
